I'm actually going to try my hand at some of that white corogated plastic as my lid. I'm going to duct tape it with gorilla tape to the back and use my gallon water jugs to help hold them down.

Is it 1 eco earth per 1 50 lb sand? 1 got 2 3packs of eco earth bricks, so I have 6 bricks and 5 sands, plus the 2 20 gallon tanks that have the mix in them as well.

you mean the egg crate as your lid?? I don't see why not lol.

The correct 5:1 ratio would be 2 50 lb bags of sand per 1 brick of ee. So 100 lbs sand : 1 brick. (Edit: I think it was aussiejjdude or soilentginda ?sp that mentioned that).. Some use straight sand, straight ee, or a combo of both. The ratios don't have to be exact! Whatever you think is best for you and them

So this is what it I found on Lowe's website.... "Twinwall, also known as corrugated plastic cardboard sheet is waterproof and lightweight. Ideal for projects around the home, office and jobsite. A very versatile sheet that is widely used in applications ranging from hobby, craft, and school projects to construction applications such as surface protection and templates for signs and printing projects."

I've never heard of such thing... Is this the same thing you're using? To me it resembles plexiglass. So I'm guessing it could be used as a lid

Yup... same thing. Except it's not clear. I will probably upgrade to plexiglass, but for now, it was inexpensive ($9 for a HUGE sheet)and I didn't have to wait on anyone to cut it. (I didn't have the dimensions anywaus.... lol)

Progress! (I should be working..... but this is so much more fun!!!)

That's 8" of substrate! I shouldn't have to change that for quite some time!! Lol

Hubby is going to cut me some branches from the thicket behind our fence tonight and I'm going to find some fish net to hang up along the back, and some.more fake plants eventually.

I'm still waiting on 2 crabs to make an appearance. I know they're surfaced I just seen them a few days ago, but I don't want to go rooting around for them either. lol

I'm also going to plant a chia seed garden for them.to have some greens to munch on.

Thanks daws! I'm really hoping that the branches and nets give them something interesting to do. I still feel like it's a bit boring for them. I want to get them a better shell shop to go over top the water lagoons.... tho that COULD making changing them difficult so I'm not sure how I'm going to do that. Maybe put 2 platforms in there and make one a moss pit and one a shell shop (one either end of the middle section) with a bridge in the middle? What could I use to stretch across the middle.do you think?

How much sand did you end up using for the sub?

4 bags, 2 bricks of eco earth. I also had a bag of crushed oyster shells laying around from when I had chickens I decided to toss those in there as well. Lol

I was thinkin g about something like this for the shell shop, then something similar for a moss pit.
