75 g with 40 g topper! Suggestions on additions/changes?

Post by karlys » Sun Aug 13, 2017 8:05 pm

Hello!

I've finally got the 40 gallon topper on my 75 gallon tank but I dunno. It feels very crowded. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that my huge crabs need huge shells and water bowls and that those take up a lot of space. (I also added one more medium sized crab named Coconut, hence the smaller shells).

The pics aren't the greatest but it's what I've got right now. I think I'm going to add a daytime bulb for viewing because the reflections are so bad.

It looks awesome! Do you have a shell shop or nets for climbing? Shell shops really help with the space issue and the crabs don't seem to mind that shells are in one place.

I agree! You can get a corner shower caddy for a moss pitt and a seagrass basket for the shell shop. Then for the topper... Fish net on the sides and back - inside of course and on the outside you can use an old shower curtain preferably with a pattern/design cut to fit or cardboard just to give a "closed in" feel.

Thanks guys! :)

I added a moss pit last night and am on the lookout for a suitable shell shop. I haven't seen them climb up into the topper yet so I'll definitely also be adding stuff to the sides to hopefully make them feel more comfortable venturing up there.

As far as fish net goes, is there anything I should avoid? I've been looking at Amazon but also remember seeing it at Michaels.

It looks great! I agree on adding a shell shop - that solved my crowded crabitat problems instantly!

Also, I made a topper too, and it takes them awhile to venture up into it! So far I've only had one brave one (who loves to climb) end up in it. I've had it for almost a month now.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do exactly about a shell shop, since like 2 of their extra shells would fill a shower caddy. I've seen people use netting to make hammock like things so I might do that.

But I've been so lucky! Both crabs have begun using the topper already. At first, it was just my more bold crab Papaya but I found Egg perched up on a branch two mornings ago.
