HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I'm thinking about purchasing a 100W ceramic heat bulb for my 10 gallon tank. Will this make my tank too hot, or not hot enough? Also, hot often do these ceramic bulbs need to be replaced?

Hello I personally prefer UTHs. Heat lamps can make humidity evaporate. I do think that a 100w ceramic bulb would be too hot for a 10 gallon.

I used to heat my entire 5 foot by 8 foot critter room using a 100W ceramic!!

The run super hot. Like, if you bump the bulb you end up with burns deep enough to scar hot. I don't care for them all so much because of this, though I do have a 150W ready to go to heat my much larger critter room this year. (Large bedroom.)

I really could not imagine trying to work one safely on a 10 gallon tank. They pump out so much concentrated heat that you could easily cook your hermits.

Plus, for the cost of the bulb you could get a good quality UTH instead!

This would probably fry your crabs, tbh. I'd go for a UTH.

Agreed! Those things are basically like a small electric stove heating element coil coated in ceramic. In a tank that small it would be like an oven. If u need to use a lamp temporarily just use a regular 25 watt frosted household bulb. I use a 60watt in my 50g. Keep an eye on your humidity though. Bulbs in 10g tanks dry up humidity fairly quickly.
