Re-setting up my 40b

Post by Hermiesguardian » Wed Jul 04, 2018 1:09 pm

So I decided to set my 40b up again instead of using it as topper. I'm so excited. I get more crabs. Lol.
I had to pretty much take out all the substrate to move it since I got a new stand. And I got a beach scene background for this one. The uth came in the other day so I just taped it up and plugged it in. It looks a little different than the other one I have. They're both ultratherms.
I also had to order a hamster wheel since my nearby stores didn't have what I wanted. Otherwise I think I have everything. ImageImageImage

I like the background! Hopefully, this does not happen with you though. When I used a lot of sand in my tank, the humidity dropped, the crabs were bored, and soon enough the substrate dried out. It was very weird.
One or hopefully two Clypeatus
Goodbye my little E. See you soon.
Bye Fred. You lasted almost 4 years with me. Hope you're with my E now! See you soon Reeba as well. I can't believe I lost you only after a month.
Crabbing for 4 years!

I mix the sand with eco earth. And I put in plenty of climbing things, a hamster wheel. They won't be bored.

I know. Me too! Lol. I have to keep from buying new things since I have so much extra stuff already.

Yay! I voted setting up another tank cause who doesn't want more crabs?
I love the background!!! So, you can just put heat tape over the background? I've been considering one for my 55 but wasn't sure how it worked with the UTH. I'll be getting heat tape from reptilebasics.
Can't wait to see more pictures!!!

The Ultratherms are the only uth's that can be insulated so it's no problem putting them over the background. Still heats the tank great.

Here are some more pics. The glare is awful. Sorry. Substrate is in. Almost 7". Pools are in and up and running. Temp and humidity perfect. Now to decorate then get more crabs.ImageImageImage

Does that count for their heat tape too? Cause I'm just running 4 feet of the 6 inch heat tape across the back of my tank instead of getting a full uth.

I'm not familiar with their heat tape.

Any flat heat pad (not the puffy ones) can be insulated.

Make sure to read any instructions that came with the tape, or contact the company. There are upper temperature limits and insulating may jack the temps too high. Heat tapes are usually designed to sit between a plastic tub and a solid shelf, so they are probably safe to insulate.

It's with reptile basics so I'll email them and check.
