Hi im loveall i now have 2 pp. I bought them for my niece but she finds tjem to boring. Then again she only saw them on the weekends so its understandable. So now there mine.
They currently have a 10 gal.but the other day i found a 20 gal. for 5 dollars

so i couldnt say no to that. Right know im concentrating on cleaning it while a friend makes a lid.
Im still not sure about making it from treated plywood i think it might mold especially because i plan to make a humidifier to help with my humidity problems.
I will post pics as i go.
Does anyone know if the treated plywood will mold?
Wish me luck

You could go to a pet store and buy a hood for a 20g, buy a screen lid for a 20g(covered with Saran wrap for humidity) or make a lid that is mostly plastic with a slit of screen. I don't think treated wood would be good for the crabs either, only organic and untreated products
5 PPs: Koa, Moja, Siam, Chella, and Ozark.

I agree that the wood probably won't be good long-term. I just used saran wrap over my first 10 and 20 gallon tanks, with a corner vented for air and depending on the humidity.

I wish i could find a lid been to a lot of pet stores and online.
Cant create one out of plastic because my heat lamps sit on the lid.
Im thinking or wrapping the wood in plastic wrap and then put plastic mesh over it.
Should make the lid safer since they wont be able to get to the wood

go to home depot and get an "egg crate light diffuser" and cut it to fit. I wrapped it with seran wrap and it makes a great lid! they can climb all over it, and with the seran wrap it holds humidity.

Would the crabs destroy the Saran Wrap? Otherwise, sounds like a great idea.

Congratulations!

I would either buy a hood or get your friend to make it from a different material.
Wood is not going to hold up as long unless it was sealed, and that's hard to do.

I laid the seran wrap across the top, and taped it just enough under the edges to hold. That way they can climb all over the bottom but the seran wrap is across the top. If you need pics I'll post some, sorry I'm terrible at explaining stuff

Problem solved with plexi glass he plans to put it on the underside of the lid using glue they use to make the tanks. I will let it completely air out first of course.

Try soaking in vinegar and then scraping with a razer blade, but in my experiance the damage to the glass is permanent.

It's not harmful at all, it just looks unsightly. I wish there was a way to make them look new again! I have a ton that are the same way.

In theory, if you have a bit of time and patience, you could soak the tank in RODI water to draw out the salts off the glass....
But totally agree with you on this one!
