Hi, we just purchased a 90 gallon tank (48" wide, 18" deep and 24" tall) we currently have 3 crabs, one is approximately medium sized, one is small and one is between small/medium. We plan on using a combo of playsand and eco earth 5:1. How deep would you recommend making the substrate....I have read some places to make it 6 inches, other places 8" or 12"
Thanks

We reccomend a min of 6 inches, however for larger crabs, 3x the depth of the crab is advised to ensure they have adequate depth to moult...

More the better basically!

When I started out I used just 6 inches in both of my tanks, but once it settled it ended up only being 3 1/2”-4”. Personally, I like my tanks to have at least 10” once they settle, so I usually fill it up about half of the tank with substrate.

I have a 90gal and I put 11,12 inches in. I think it's settled to maybe 10. I haven't measured. Even with 12inches it gives them plenty of climbing room.
