I keep doing research but I still do not have a clear understanding of what is best. I have a ceramic heat bulb with a dome but it was drying out the tank and I felt it may be getting too hot for them. I now have a UTH on the side of the 10 gallon but it doesn’t get much heat. I am not a fan of the lighting and ceramic bulb setup and want to heat without using it. Has anyone been successful heating without the use of light source?

Re: Heating
Many of us heat with only UTH's. Personally, my house varies greatly in temperature between the seasons. I have four UTH's -one on each side and two on the back. That works for me, as I can plug/ unplug as many as I need. Others use only one UTH and have been successful. The ones that have a sticky side can't be insulated over top of (you have to insulate around them). The ones that you attach with duct or electrical tape can be insulated over top.

Good to know. They get sun in the room and those additional lights get too hot in my opinion. I have two UTH right now but only one attached to back right now

Re: Heating
My tank has indirect light from the window, too. Many people find that heat lights zap the humidity, I suppose that would partly depend where you live. But yes, lots of us only use UTH's for heat for sure.
