I have 2 8 watt pads as well as another pad that idk the wattage of. I also have a heat lamp, however the tank will not stay warm! is there ways to increase heat and humidity without having to buy another heating pad?

What kind of top are you using? If it is one that has the screen on it you can wrap Saran Wrap around it to help with the humidity and temperature…that is what I did with mine and it helped a lot. I also use a towel on top of it too. Right now I only have one crab in that tank because he is molting…if you don’t have Saran Wrap you can use plastic bags with some duck tape.

What brand are the heaters? I've heard Zoo Med uths don't work very well.

Where are the mats located? Be sure to place them on the back and/or sides above the substrate line (if they go below the sub line, it's ok. The sub might dry out faster though). They should never be under the tank.

Is there adhesive on the mats? If so, those can't be insulated over, but you can insulate around them. Put aluminum foil, shiny side out, around cardboard. Duct tape the cardboard to the tank around the mat. Ultratherms can be insulated over, by duct taping the aluminum/cardboard directly over the mat.

The best uth brands are Ultratherm and Fluker's. Don't worry about the wattage. You just need one that will span the entire length of the tank. If it heats up the tank too much, you can use a thermostat with it that will keep your mat at a set temp.

Heat lamps tend to zap humidity. If you are able to get a good uth, you don't have to use the lamp (and your humidity will go up). If you have a mesh lid, you can wrap the entire thing in saran wrap to keep the humidity in. (However, you should not use the heat lamp if you do this).

What's your temp/humidity readings?
