Good morning all,
Just some questions I liked to ask because I’m unsure of…
1. How can I reduce the humidity in my tank?
50 gallon tank with 4 crabs in it. My humidity has stayed at 90+ since putting my crabs into the bigger tank and within 4-5 days their food is moldy and the hanging Hammock is covered. I’ve taken it out and have cleaned it. The temp stays at 75. I have two thermometer and hydrometer inside the tank to monitor everything.
2. On the safe food list is states or shows that I can give my babies strawberries and the tops. Do I cut the strawberries in pieces or can I put them in there whole? Just wondering because I am not sure. Fairly still new at having my hermies.
Thank you
Dolphin

Re: A few questions
1. I have a lot of problems with high humidity. Maybe don't spray down the tank as much if that's what you use, or reduce the amount of coconut fibre if that's what you have as substrate. (Mix more sand in). And if your hygrometer is straight on top of the substrate it won't read accurately.
2. I always chop up strawberries so its easier for them to get a hold of, but don't make all the same size.
I hope this helps! I'm still fairly new too though, so lets' see if other people respond.

To reduce the humidity, increase the ventilation - so if you lid is sealed, don't have it fully sealed, vent it a bit.
You can do either, whole or chopped. They use their pinchers to tear up food into little pieces.

Okay would it be okay to drill small holes in the tops for ventilation? I ask this because the lids are homemade lids. I don’t dare to unclip the lids and leave them open just a tiny bit because I have lots of cats and kittens and we know how they like to play and I would be afraid they would try to open the lid and get inside my tank. I can’t have that happen.
I will do some whole and sliced strawberries for my hermits.
Thank you curly

Oh yeah, the cats would want to get in and the crabs would want to get out! LOL!
You could for sure drill a few small holes for ventilation!
