HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I have one digitsl thermometer/hygrometer that I move around the tank. I use the same brand for all my animals and will often out two in the same place to check for accuracy, I don’t do this in the crab’s tank because the high humidity degrades them faster.

I just realized I always place the thermometer in the front of the tank so I can see it easier. The temperature at the front (furthest from the heater) is usually 79-81, so i figured great. I mostly look at humidity in their tank anyway.

Well yesterday and today I have been placing the thermometer around the back and it can get as high as 95 right against the heat pad! It drops down to 90-92 about two inches away from the back wall, and is a pretty solid gradient from front to back.

Is this too high? Should the “high” and “low” be lower or is a gradient from 80-95 fine?

I have noticed Snappy has been very active since moving to the new tank. Not acting stressed or anything, just supercharged lol.

Doesn't sound too bad! Especially since you do have lower temp areas for them to get to, and they can also dig to cool down if needed. However, 95 is not exactly ideal. Do you have a thermostat to control your heating pad? Not only can it make things easier for you to adjust but is also a great safety precaution
