Play sand from Home Depot was already wet
So I decided it was time to replace my crab’s substrate yesterday. I want to Home Depot for the tried and true play sand. I think I ended up with a different brand than I’ve had before, but the sand was already moist. Knowing it was play sand and supposed to be safe, I didn’t worry too much about it, and went ahead and threw it in my tank with some Eco earth (5:1 ratio). As I was going to bed I started thinking and wondered if I should have rinsed the sand or gotten a different brand that wasn’t moist or something since the water that this sand was moistened with was assumedly not dechlorinated??? But I found a couple of slightly related posts on here saying the chlorine probably has evaporated already or will soon and the crab will be fine. I did moisten the eco earth with dechlorinated salt water if that helps. So I assume and think everything’s probably fine, but just wanted to double check with people that know more. If I have to go buy more sand it’s no big deal since it’s cheap, it’s just a pain in the butt to have to change it out since it’s so heavy lol!

Re: Play sand from Home Depot was already wet
I had a bag of play sand that I got in the fall, and it was wet already. I put it on my front porch and of course there was a freeze and snow fall that night. It was frozen to the porch! So I left it there.....for like a year, LOL. It froze and thawed, and got snowed on and rained on, and was more dry and more wet.....and then I used it without doing anything else to it! If it smelled fine, it is probably fine. Many people have used regular tap water or other water that they didn't dechlorinate, to moisten the substrate.
Personally, I wouldn't be worried about it, and would not change it out.
