Saltwater Tank Substrate Types?

Hi! I'm getting my big purple pincher tank up and running, and the saltwater tank in it is going to be a 1 gallon "betta" tank. I want to run it and set it up beforehand like a full saltwater aquarium would be.

My question is, would my land hermit crabs like to dig underwater too? Should I give the tank a sandy substrate as opposed to a gravel one?

I was thinking crushed coral, but live sand is another option I have available to me.

Land hermit crabs won't dig in substrate under water. There is no need to have substrate in the bottom of either of your water pools.

Considering the specific needs of land hermit crabs, they typically won't dig in underwater substrate. So, do you think opting for a sandy substrate rather than gravel in your 1-gallon "betta" tank would be a better choice, given their natural behaviors?
What are you referring to?
