This is where you discuss the conditions of your crabitat -- temperature, humidity, substrate, decorating, etc.

Bacterial bloom??

Post by Sunshineandcrabs » Sat Jul 13, 2024 9:39 am

I have some small whiteish spots, very uniform, circular shape on the front glass of my tank. Someone in a Facebook group said she had the same and was advised it was a bacterial bloom and I need to replace my entire substrate.
I have about 7” sand and eco earth mix, my temp and humidity are good with the humidity a little higher, about 88, but no other issues on the surface, top of my substrate is dry-ish and moist below.

Can someone put me in the right direction to determine if in fact this is something I need to deal with by replacing my entire substrate?

I have 3 crabs, only one is visible at the moment.
I hear someone tunneling near the area where this white substance is.

I am going to work on figuring by out how to post a photo, I am new here! Thank you so much!!!

That doesn't look like a bacterial bloom to me. I will ask another Admin to chime in too.

Could you clarify if the spots are only on the glass or if they are also present on the substrate or any decorations inside the tank?
