HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Hello! I am getting crabs for Christmas. I have everything I need but I just realized my tank lid is mesh and that won't work for keeping in heat/humidity. My last tank had the plexiglass lid, which are very pricey.

Is there a DIY that I can do to make the mesh lid work? I saw someone suggested plastic wrap but I'm skeptical about that being safe...I'd think the crabs would pull the plastic and possibly eat it. Also I don't think plastic wrap would stay very well?

Any ideas? Thanks!

I used plastic wrap as the cover for my first two tanks, each of which I had for a few years! My crabs were smallish, and I didn't have anything that they could climb up to reach the lid.
The current tank I have, the person who had it before me had made a DIY lid with corrugated plastic (I think that's what it's called). It's not super sturdy, so I have put a piece of shelving over top so that my cats can sleep up there and not cave in the lid.

I have a rectangle of plastic wrap on the top of my mesh lid. I have scotch tape along several parts of the edge to hold it in place. I've had it that way for years. My crab has climbed on the lid many times and never even attempted to pull the plastic, as far as i can tell.
