temp issues (just trying to get all this sorted out)

Post by Guest » Tue May 19, 2009 3:37 pm

my house is normally a proper temp for the crabs (around 75ish) but with summer coming its only going to get cooler. they are currently in a plastic terrarium (not my first choice, just all i had when i acquired them) all three in the main tank are buried and have been for about a month (since i got them) though i did spot one above ground a day or two ago. ive noticed the temp slipping a bit and i want to get a heat source going for them. all i have is an under the tank heater which says do not use with plastic. i have a 10 gal glass tank but i dont want to dig them up and move them to a bigger tank so what do i do?

help...please...? :?:

thanks to everyone with adive to share

Put the plastic container in the 10g if it'll fit. Then you can heat the 10g and that heat will radiate into the plastic container. If not, wrap the plastic container in blankets and keep it away from AC vents. I had to do the same with mine even though I have a glass tank, cuz fiancee likes the house colder than me or the crabs prefer.

thanks! that sounds like a pretty good idea

but i thought the light cycle was really important...if i wrap them up with blankets wont that mess them up? or will the light from above be enough?

Light cycle isn't as important as the heat. I always have a lamp on for my guys and they don't mind.
