Is 40w 10.0 uva/uvb light too much?...

Sooo.....

Ever true to the obsession I've developed, I purchased a 75+ gallon tank today... But in my defense, it was SUCH a good deal! :P

And, since it has a light hood with it, I was looking on-line to the different lights to fit it. Exo Terra has a Repti Glo 10.0 light that is long enough to fit the hood, but would that be too much uv light for the crabbies?

HERE's the link.

Would this be ok for the daylight/heat source?

OR...

Would THIS be better?

Thanks!
Tammy

I don't now personally, but I was told by a store employee that for reptiles, a 5.0 would be for a 75-100g tank, 3.0 for a 50g, 2.0 for smaller.

Since most of us use glass lids, it probably doesn't hurt to be a little stronger, since the glass blocks most of the UVB.

But I remember a thread not too long ago somewhere suggesting too high might not be desirable. Can't remember though.

I wouldn't dedicate the UV light as a heat source, though it can provide an extra heat boost during the daytime.

I personally would not depend on it for a heat source, but only for the uva/uvb quality. I believe it is recommended for screen tops or if the hood fits down securely on the tank top with the glass lid folded back, as glass will block most, if not all of it out. Here is a link to one of my favorite places, they explain in more detail about these lights.

I use 2.0
They make many kinds, but this supplier lists more info on them.

Thank you SO much! I was afraid that the 10.0 would be too much!

I can't wait to get started on the new 'tat! :tater:
