Post by Guest » Wed May 26, 2010 4:11 am

hey guys,

im planning to have airstones in my tat, cause it looks cool and it can help to freshen the water too. so its less water changed !yey!. and now im begging for suggestion and ideas how to use them . :|
yesterday i gone to petstore and check for air pumps. and when i seen them the wire is short. isnt it long ? and is it expensive ?

The air pumps will be the most expensive thing.

You need to buy aquarium tubing and cut it to size so that it's long enough.

As for two air stones on one pump - they do have these splitter things that let you do that. Everything you need should all be in the same section.

how much is the price ? i told the sales lady that how much is the air pump. the small one. and she told "one ten" (pesos) i dint clear it enough , cause i dint tell my mom on going to the pets store she might notice were we have been and why we take too long in the bank. hahahah

ill try to tell my mom on letting me buy one before i clear the the price back. : ] but i had a problem on where ill gonna plug the air pump in.

The minimal 5gallon air pumps we have here are about $5 USD, the tubing is about $1 USD and I think the splitters can be found separate or in a pack of them, I think I got my pack of them for $3 USD.

Yeah, you don't need to spend a lot on the pump because you are using it just for air stones so get the smallest one they have. Everything should cost you no more than $15 depending on their selection of pumps....

It shouldn't be messy. The applicable wires, as far as I know, are on the outside of the tank, and the only thing going in the tank is the air tube, which can be cut to fit your tank size.

You do have to figure out how to secure the air tube in the tank (clamps, tank decor, etc.) and make sure that the smaller crabs don't use the air tube to climb out of the tank by making sure the tank lid is secured firmly.

I have airstones in my pools that run 24/7...never touch 'em, never turn 'em off. The crabs don't bother them at all...they have other things to climb on if they want. You are using such little power - the pump won't overheat...the pumps are made to run continously.....

I'm not sure how many airstones you plan to have but I have two - salt and fresh water. I have the pump which has an airtube hooked to it going to a gang valve with two connections. I put the airtube from the pump into the side (it will show you) of the valve holder....(determine the length and you can cut the hose). Then I run two pieces of hose from each holder and put air stones on the end.

The gang valve is like this....you can get them for lots of connections...I have one smaller than this for two airstones:

aww. tnx ! :) the air pump that i choose is that it has double hole(i dont know it called) that i could put in my tubes. and that for my salt and fresh.
i only need to place my tank on the place that has outlets , but i need helf for carrying it w/ our gardener.

Oh....I forgot to mention that they have pumps like that too. Don't worry about it overheating. Like I said - they are made to run constantly. I used to have an aquarium and mine ran for years. Right now, mine have been running in my crabitat non-stop. You'll be fine. The pump....I don't even know if it gets warm...that's how little I pay attention to it....because there is no need.

Very cool! Good luck and show us pictures when you've got it set up!
