Redesign of Water Dish Area: A neat solution!

I had a lot of problems with my Es digging up so much sand that they would fill my water dishes up with sand and the sand would draw out the water, so I tried out a new design that I saw done by another crabber.

I used plexiglass to create a division in my tank that was sand on one side and river rock on the water dish side. I kept the wall of plexiglass tall to keep the sand out. Now my crabs climb into the water area using fish net and vines. So far I really like it alot!

Here are some pics!

wow this is a great idea! i ALWAYS have problems with the poops pushing substrate into the water dishes
did you use aquarium sealant to secure it or did you just stick it in?
i may just steal this idea!

I didn't use any glue. I just had plexi glass cut at Lowes, then I dug up all the wet sand under the water dishes. Since the sad was pretty wet in this area, it was easy to cut into it and it held its shape. Then I set the plexi glass in, up against the sand, then added about .25" of sand on the bottom, then added the rocks. After that, I just set my jacuzzi water dishes in, pushing them into the rocks. The sand and rocks holds the plexiglass in place just fine. This was pretty easy to do and the crabs just watched from the other side of the tank. Try it!!

Thanks everyone! I'm happy to share that this past week with my new water set up has been soooo nice. My water doesn't need to be changed every night like before. My water dishes are so much cleaner and we just love seeing the crabs climb into the "water zone".
