Missing Crab!!!

Post by TheCrabLord » Mon Sep 18, 2017 7:35 pm

Hey, so last night 2 of my crabs went missing, Penelope and Sandy. This was Penelope's 4th time escaping, and I found her pretty fast, but I checked all over my room and can't find Sandy. I've checked every dark crevice possible and she's nowhere to be found. I set up a small area on my floor with a log to hide in, some water, some food, and some moss but she isn't there. I checked my tank for any tunneling holes and found none and looked everywhere in the tank. I'm really worried for her as she's still at risk for pps and whenever I've taken her out in the past she's pretty sluggish, I'm worried about her not going anywhere and dying. Please help? I sit in my room in silence to hear her move and I heard nothing.

Omg that is so stressful I'm sorry! One time, my Janet escaped and went missing for a solid week before I found her. Make sure to check any loose clothing you may have on the floor and especially under your furniture. I found Janet cuddled up in my tank top under my nightstand, and she didn't make a peep at any time check inside shoes, in places you think they may not fit, everywhere. Never underestimate what these funny critters can squeeze themselves into!

I had one of my E's escape, and he made it from the crabitat, all the way downstairs into my parent's bathroom.

Id lay out a bowl of water with some smelly food like shrimp heads in a larger bowl with a ramp. So once they go in they cant get out. They will naturally seek out water - humidity - abd they have a good sence of smell so the shrimp will get them going.

Oh no! Is it possible that they just both dug down? They often back fill their holes and it can be hard to tell where they've gone down at and mine often do so in pairs. What kind of lid do you have? U should get some of those locking clips or put a few large books on top. I hope they are ok

Heya... any update? Try the stinky trap?

I had a lot of escape attempts (& successes) when I had 2 med crabs in a ten gal tank for several months. I honestly think they were just going nuts from boredom. Also, I had a weird homemade lid, which didn't help.

But they are remarkably strong, so finding and fixing the lid issue should probably be a priority. After a while it's stressful not knowing if they've burrowed or escaped. :(

Haha when i first got my crested gecko i was so broke i couldnt afford a screen. I made one with a cut up fishnet stocking and and some yarn. Boogie got out like 3 times before i finally got a real lid! Lol
