dead crab, out of shell

Post by TheCrabLord » Fri Jun 29, 2018 9:36 pm

i am a mess. and whenever i rearrange my tank decorations, i let my crabs run around my room. i count them and always find them. last week i went away for a week. came back and a dead crab was sitting in the corner of my room, shelless. idk who it was out of my guys. and im still not sure if she was alive or dead. i poked her a bit and got no movement, her eyes were dull and antennae lifelessly tucked into her, which to me means death. but her body looked shiny and damp, and there was no death smell. i took her outside and dug a hole for her, but im burying her completely tomorrow. seems disrespectful but maybe some animal will have a nice meal. any chance that she is still alive tho???? i dont really think there is but ... im hopeful. never letting my crabs out of my sight again. never. im super paranoid that i might have left more out anf tbat theyre dead though. think im going to leave a dish of water out from here on out, for personal comfort.

If there is any chance that she is still alive, create an iso immediately with optimal conditions, fw, msw, a couple of shells, and sources of protein and calcium, and put her in there.

I am sorry to hear that this happened, however there is no reason that your crabs should be out of the tank when you are doing any rearranging or spot cleaning the tank.

Aww. So sorry to hear this. More than likely your little hermit has passed. Shell was probably abandoned because it became too weak to carry. If you do decide to make sure it has passed, you would need to reshell it before you iso it. Then provide raw honey, dechlorinated fw, dechlorinated msw, protein and calcium. Make sure it is humid and warm as well. Best wishes.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
