My crab has recently been digging tons of holes, I think to prep for molt because it’s been about 8 months since he has. All of the holes he has dug have had little holes where he can breathe, but the one he is in right now, I don’t see any! I can see his hole because he dug it against the glass, and I think that’s where he’s gonna stay because it’s really deep.
So my question is, will he be okay if there’s no hole to breathe? I of course know they have modified gills, but idk if O2 can still get through the sand. This is probably such a dumb question but I get so worried about my little guys! Thanks for any responses! <3

Don't worry, the crabs know what they are doing. They have been digging and doing silly crabby things for thousands of years before they became pets. As long as we maintain the proper tank conditions, offer the right foods, shells, fresh and saltwater they will take care of the other stuff on their own.

Is your substrate moist enough to hold it's shape?
If so, like Motor said, they dig and make caves and know what they are doing, LOL!

Okay!! I just get so worried! I’m very proud of my tank conditions actually, they’re really good! I’ve had so much trouble, and I’ve finally got it perfect, thanks!

Yes, I use all purpose sand and playsand. It is wet, but not too wet that it’s sloppy. It’s like the perfect texture for sandcastles. Thank you!curlysister wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 8:09 pmIs your substrate moist enough to hold it's shape?
