I don't want to give false hope but, He might be having a surface molt, in that case they look dead. I'm guessing you read the 2nd post under emergency..." never assume a limp crab is dead"?
It is a distinct STRONG smell. Like a dead fish at the beach. Sadly, we bought two at a beach shop and one died from pps. Post purchase syndrome. It was VERY obvious, not like dried shrimp.

I did read that post. I'm hoping its just a surface molt. He did show pre-molt behavior before all this started. Waiting it out. I've had him the longest so I don't want to give up!

Well guess it's over. Harley never took the shell. There's a mild smell, same as when the dried shrimp were in there, but there's white mold all over his tail.
