I don't want to give false hope but, He might be having a surface molt, in that case they look dead. I'm guessing you read the 2nd post under emergency..." never assume a limp crab is dead"?
It is a distinct STRONG smell. Like a dead fish at the beach. Sadly, we bought two at a beach shop and one died from pps. Post purchase syndrome. It was VERY obvious, not like dried shrimp.

I'm so very sorry if he is dead.

Do not assume death.

I did read that post. I'm hoping its just a surface molt. He did show pre-molt behavior before all this started. Waiting it out. I've had him the longest so I don't want to give up!

Well guess it's over. 😩 Harley never took the shell. There's a mild smell, same as when the dried shrimp were in there, but there's white mold all over his tail.

I'm so sorry! At least you improved his life while you had him.
