I appreciate and respect your information. Thanks for clearing up the vitamin thing for me. I was feeling neglectful for not providing the Marine vitamins that go in the water (or rather thinking it would be better if I did)... I think it was the Red Sea success marine calcium 3+ or something like that.
I am glad to know that the hermits do not suffer when they start getting very sick like the little crab in this post.
Thanks again for your help. Just want to make sure my guys are being taken care of to the best of my ability.
How do I euthanize a hermie?

To ease your worry about trace elements, ocean salt water mixes provide all the essential minerals and trace elements a hermit crab needs! So as long as you have a quality brand of ocean mix and you provide the ocean salt water to drink in your tank, the crabs will be able to top up what mineral deficiencies that may exist in their diet. The more diverse the foods you feed and more importantly, the foods in their natural or most unrefined form, is really the best way to ensure they get what they need! As an example here is a picture of my namesake crab, Chester...6 and 1/2 years old!
He is healthy!

I think I am doing good with that... I give them Oceanic Saltwater... I leave a dish of Narnars kibble (either her Staple, Fruit n Flower or the Blue/Green) in at all times and then give them quality fresh fruits, veggies, meats and fish daily. But they are soooo picky! I am trying to get some Mangrove seeds/pods off ebay. Do you know how to serve those?

Since this has turned into an "ask Chestersmom" session, I have few ?s of my own.
What is your take on using the filtered sea water packaged by Catalina Water Company, "Real Ocean" ( http://www.catalinawater.com/ )? Do you think the filtering process has removed anything necessary, or do you think it's just (or at least nearly) as good as taking water from the ocean? What brand of salt water do you use? Do you think that using "ReptiVite" or another powdered reptile vitamin supplement would be beneficial, or should all nutrients come from food?
I have had my "oldest" crab for 4 years, but I have lost a few hermies in the interim, and I'd love to have a higher success rate, and keep all my little guys for many, many years.
