I have a 6x8 ZooMed on the side of my 10g and it helps a bit, keeping the tank temperature between 73 and 79. The higher temps occur when the strip light is on and the 73 overnight when the tank is dark. As my home is kept at 72, the ZooMed itself is only adding 1 degree. For the new 29g tank, I've ordered an 11x23 Ultratherm online from DrsFoster&Smith. The tank is 30" long and 18" high so the Ultratherm will be above the 6-7" substrate and will leave a 7" "cooler" area at one end of the tank so the crabs will have a choice of temps.

If you can return the small one, do it. So many of us currently use or have ordered the superior Ultratherm brand, guaranteed to raise tank temps by more than 1 or 2 degrees. The cost of the 11x23 I've ordered was $32, including shipping charges. You'll pay more than that for a larger ZooMed at Petco or PetSmart. In my previous post, I misidentified the online vendor from whom I've ordered the Ultratherm -- I also ordered a glass lid the same day and that was from DrsFoster&Smith. The correct vendor is Reptile Basics and here's the link.

I ordered the 11x35 for my exoterra/40B. All the substrate is pretty much filling the 40B on the bottom and the Ultratherm will go on the outside back of the exoterra (36x18) so there will definitely be cooler areas for mine as well. Not to mention the front of the tank will not be as warm as the back. I also ordered from Reptile Basics. I found Bean Farm's shipping to be ridiculous. Amazon had slightly cheaper shipping than RB but the Ultratherm that size there was more expensive. Buying from RB I saved $10-11.

I have a new update sort of unrelated to the heating. Lol my E has been moved by my fiance (not knowing that he probably shouldn't have bugged her). But he put her in the moss pit on the warmer side of the tank. The humidity started to fall to 70 (is this too low?) So i spraysprayed the tank including her. She perked right up and came out but is just kind of sitting in the same spot but moving her legs around a little bit. Is this a good sign? She hasn't done any walkig sp I'm not sure if she's still sluggish.. but at least she's out of her shell...

I put the smaller one on the warm side of the tank and draped a small fleece blanket around the top of the tank. The temp bumpeD up to 76 so far with the help oof that pad and the blanket. but I also just bought another pad I was going to put on the back to cover most of the tank to get the other side a little warmer. That one is for 20-30 gal I believe. Might have a problem with the temps being too hot now...but I'll have to see and play around with it.
