I know it's a lot to take in. We were surprised with 2 PP from my mom's trip to Galveston and now we have a 55g, 20g, and 10g and 14 PP and always looking to adopt more.
The big thing right now is to make sure you get the humidity and heat up. Low 70s is just too cold. You could tape foil to a couple of sides (outside) of the tank since you have the ceramic heater and insulate that with cardboard or foam.
Once you get past the initial investment, crabbing is pretty inexpensive except for here and there upgrades or 'tat additions. Always check Craigslist and local craft stores and around the house for usable items. The Dollar Tree has been a great resource for a lot of people and you can DIY a lot of stuff easily. Your kids can make Lego structures for them to hide under or climb on.

How hard are the legos to keep clean? Do they mold? Love that idea! I'll get on the foil right now! And I think I gave a few cardboard boxes hanging around. I'll be heading to the dollar store tomorrow!

OK, got more substrate! Humidity is going up now, the amount of water in the substrate is much higher then we had it before. Definitely sand castle consistency now! We changed the food, we've got dried coconut, dried shrimp, honey -organic, and some carrots. We used play sane and eco earth - as close to 5 to 1 as we could get. We had the stuff in the tank at 50-50 so we just added the new stuff as 5 to 1 and mixed in the old stuff too.

We have cardboard around the outside, put it on the top for a bit but it's to dark. Can't even read the thermometer! The top is wrapped in plastic wrap and the ceramic heater just got moved into the middle of the top. Temps are improving slowly! Next step - aluminum foil the outside of the heat isn't high enough. Cloth with water on the top of the humidity isn't high enough.

Here's the new results

OK, so we got ahold of a 40 gallon tank... Gotta love Craigslist! It's a tall, but I figure that will give us all the room we need for sub. And we can utilize the height of it by making different levels for climbing. Now to clean it up and figure out a plan of attack [WINKING FACE] I can't wait to post the finished set up!

Hi! Just wanted to remind you that a tall tank does not provide the same footprint that a long tank does. Even if the gallonage is higher you need to increase the inches of sub to make up for a narrow space. Bumping your substrate level to 10 inches+ should help, especially since you have all these feisty Es.

Yeah, we were thinking of about a foot of sub since we have so much "room". Dimensions are 36 x 20 x 12. Guess it's long and tall! All the rest of our big tanks are wide, so this seems so skinny!

Can you guys posts pic of your E tanks so we can get ideas for our tank. I'm seeing a lot of bad tanks when I Google hermit tank setup. Thanks

Anything long, with deep substrate (8-12") will suffice. My Es spend a lot if time u derground and in the moss pits. They tear up the ground level surface, putting hills and holes everywhere. My tat is super condensated, so no pics until i DIY myself a squeegee!!
