ANT INFESTATION HELP ASAP PLEASE

Post by Dom :) » Mon May 04, 2015 8:01 pm

well it's time for all of the eggs to hatch for bugs and I saw a few ants and one spider in the crabitat. Is this okay like food mites or should I worry?
Just the basic 10 gallon set up with 2 crabs, plus a 55 gallon at my dad's.

I get ants popping in this time of year too. I always clean up their scent trails (vinegar water) and then put a new coat of vaseline around the bottom rim of the tank (and on any wires leading in) to keep them out. If I remember, I do this before they become a problem. If you're not careful the ants may decide your crabitat makes a good home base. Then ant baits. It's important to keep them OUT of the tanks with the Vaseline before you put out any poison. Don't want them dragging it in to the tank.

The spider, I don't think is an issue. If anything he may be of some help to you.

Or the spider could be hermit crab food.

Ants

Post by Cutepetgroomer » Thu May 21, 2015 8:05 pm

I've spotted ants in the bathroom. I'm worried they'll find the crabitat.. They look like carpenter ants. I don't really know how to prevent them .

You can probably prevent them from getting into the crabitat with Vaseline, like Calla suggested :)

I think for carpenter ants, depending on how bad the infestation is, you may have to seek professional help. My mom's house has them really bad right now, like you can see piles of wood shavings in the windowsills and bottom of baseboards and it isn't termites but when it rains a lot the ants start to come out. If there are that many visible, there could be tons in the walls (if they are carpenter ants not just sugar or black ants). We have a ton of different kinds here in Texas! Ants in every color and temper...haha.

I've just noticed them this week .. They haven't gotten into crabitat yet but we have to let management know and they'll have someone come spray professionally. I took a pic to show the big guy and management .. Some are huge others small..

yeah we had them spray.. pest control said they were carpenter ants.. not fire ants. Also said good thing I was on top of it.. could have been worse.
