Haha thanks so much. I really appreciate all of the help and I will continue to keep you updated!
Re: Possible Molt
If she's acting weak like you've described, I would just place a hide over her with some high energy foods nearby and leave her alone. I know its tempting to keep checking on them but when something's wrong like this it will just add to their stress. I hope she pulls through.smudge1017 wrote: While I don't think that she regained muscle control yet, she seems a lot better. But sometimes it looks like her shell is a bit too heavy for her and it presses down on her eyes and they kind of droop. But as soon as she get picked up and comes out of her shell her eyes pop right back up.

She has a hide over her and her reflexes have gotten better. It I place a hand in front of her she instantly curls up, that is the first time she did that in about a week. It is 83 in the tank and there is no instant effects. Of course I will give her time and hopefully she starts to walk soon.

I put in a mineral block and some carrots, I will add some honey and I hope she starts to eat and walk soon!

Re: Possible Molt
Alright, so Eo didn't fall limp out of her shell at all today. But she is still not walking or moving her antenna. But that is understandable considering I only kind of have the temp under control and how cold it used to be. The night temp was 73 and Eo's limbs seemed kind of weak and jellyish. But I was reading about what cold temperatures can do to a crab and apparently, if it is as low as it was they can abandon their shells, become lethargic, lose their limbs, or become weak. So as soon as I have about 3 days-a week of the temp being back up, I think that Eo will start to heal. It seems to be going good and thanks for all of your help so far during this battle with Eo.

So Eo's antenna look tangled but I think that it is because the temp in the hut is only 72 degrees. Could that be the cause. And I dipped her in a shallow dish of water and she instantly started moving her legs and why looked like drinking but she wasn't walking. Send good energies toward my baby.

Re: Possible Molt
You HAVE to get the temp to at LEAST 75.

If you are unable to get the temps up and keep them at minimal safe levels it may be necessary to foster the crab out until you are able to purchase a uth to attach to the tank. 75 is the absolute minimum temperature and honestly 80 would be much better. I am sorry you are having so much trouble

Re: Possible Molt
I reread and noticed you have a heating pad. Try insulating it with foil. Where is it attached to the tank at? It should be on the back above the line of substrate, not below the tank. You may want a different thermometer as well if it was reading in the 80's before and now is showing low 70's, you can get a digital one cheaply from WalMart.

Got the temp up the night temp is now 76. Eo is still acting the same though. I think it may be a week or two before she is back to her normal self. What do you guys think.

Re: Possible Molt
It'll probably take a little bit, at least. Temperatures that are too cold are very serious for tropical animals like hermit crabs. You mentioned having insulated the pad with foil, but foamboard or styrofoam will help even more. It's pretty cheap to get a sheet of foamboard from a craft store like Michael's.
Keep in mind that the temperature is still only at the minimum recommended. She may not be that active anyway, with no friends & the temperature still down around 76. I've read a lot of people saying that their crabs get more active & seem happier around 80. It would still be a really good idea to move Eo's tank away from the door for her health & comfort.

The day temp is about 82. How do you think that I can convince my parents to let me get another crab. They said that Eo will be the last crab and they are not going through this again because I obsess over the well being of my little baby Eo! Help Please!

Re: Possible Molt
We leave fro vacation in about a week. I hope Eo is better by then. The temp is a little better, but her legs still seem weak. Of course Eo isn't too weak to open her BP at me! Any how, she seems a little better and I hope she continues to progress in the health department. But I am going on vacation and I was wondering if you guys think that I could stick her in about a five gallon plastic tank and take her on the road with me. We will be in the car for many hours and it is supposed to be warm. I will take my heater and I just want to bring her so I can giver her the attention she needs while I am gone for about 10 days. What do you guys think and I hope she is better by then!
