What is this?

Post by hermitcrab29 » Thu Feb 04, 2016 8:37 pm

Ok, so I just found out my crab rocket has a huge mass under his left leg, but doesn't look far back enough to be a molting sack. I don't know what it is but it doesn't look normal. None of my other crabs have it so I have no clue what it is. Has anyone else heard of this before? And if someone could tell me how to post a picture it would help. Thanks.

It's hard to say without actually seeing it. Is it behind his back left walking leg? What color is it? Instructions for posting pics are here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=87783

Does he only have one walking leg on that side? If so it could be a gel bud for a new leg forming.

Image no, it isn't gelish and it is behind his small leg that holds him in his shell. Sorry for not being clear about that. Hopefully the picture is helpful, even though it is hard to see.

I got it to show by rick clicking and opening it in a new tab. Honestly, I can't see anything in that pic :( Can you get a clearer one with the flash on? If he's acting okay I wouldn't worry too much. Sounds like it's the right location for a molting sack since they're tucked back pretty far in their shell legs.

It also looks to be attached to the shell, but it seems to go farther up or back each night. But I don't know, I'm such a newbie!

I can see the picture. Looks like a molt sac. :) the crab may go molt pretty soon because the Exo also looks to be a little ashy.

Thanks so much. It just seemed so big! :) I have the conditions they need to molt so that should be ok. I've never seen a molt sack since the crabs that have molted for me were right after I bought them
