Molting crab attacked

Post by Guest » Sat Oct 04, 2014 7:16 am

One of my crabs were molting and I didn't know. I saw another crab with a crab leg in his claw and tried to save the one molting by putting him in isolation. He just seems like a blob of jelly and I can't even tell if he has been injured. Should I wash him off and try to get him back in his shell before burying him. He still has most of his exoskeleton to eat so should I bury that with him too?

He was probably carrying away part of the exo of the molting crab. Where is his shell? In the future NEVER dig up a buried crab for something like thjs. The damage is already done. It is far more dangerous for him now that you dug him up than if you just left him alone. Do not rebury him. He will. not have the ability to dig in this state. Make a little divot in the sand, set him in it and cover with a hide and his exo. That is what the directions are if shelled. Hopefully someone can help you with the shell part. Keep him moist.
#1 rule of crabbing - crabs are weird.
#2 rule of crabbing - see above
