How do I find a deceased crab?

Post by Dom :) » Sat Jun 06, 2015 7:34 pm

The "smell" is in the tank but all my hermies that are currently up aren't dead.

I have 6 down and any of them could be molting.

Crossing my fingers its not Shelby (sorry other crabs...)

I didn't know where else to put this. If it's wrong feel feel to move it
Just the basic 10 gallon set up with 2 crabs, plus a 55 gallon at my dad's.

First, check the surface thoroughly for hidden, rotting food. It's more likely that's what you're smelling. I think it's unlikely you'd be able to smell a crab buried under all that substrate. If you don't find anything on the surface I still wouldn't recommend digging with 6 crabs down. If there is a buried dead crab, it won't hurt anything to wait. Good luck! I hope it's just a nasty bit of food they hid somewhere.

I've had 4 pass while molting and never knew. It really probably is some stashed food! Little hoarders!
