Crab keeps going naked- hurt?

Post by Meggrace5 » Wed Oct 17, 2018 6:53 pm

Hi All,

My crab went down to molt about two weeks ago. Roughly 3 days ago I saw him naked drinking out of the water dish- I was getting ready frantically for a wedding so I wasn't able to immediately attend to him. When I went to look for him about an hour later he was gone. I noticed 2 days later that he was re shelled in a shell way to big for him and I was pretty certain he wouldn't be able to walk around in it. I dug up his shell- it seems like he came out of the shell when molting and dug out that way. Eventually he changed from the huge shell back to his other shell but now it seems like he can't really walk in that shell either. I have twice seen him coming out of the shell to eat and drink and then returning to the shell- but not walking WITH the shell.

Do you think he hurt his tail/trunk? What should I do?

Tank has 4 inches of substrate (sand and eco earth), 10 gallons for 1 crab, good temperature and humidity, plenty of shells, salt and fresh chlorinated water, eggshells, regular hermit crab food, eggs, peanut butter and bananas to eat.

Thanks!!

Streaking is a sign that something isn't right. I know you answered some of these, but could you please fill out the Emergency Template:
