Tank humidifier/heater

Post by CrabMommaChara » Fri Jan 11, 2019 7:20 pm

I didn't think something thru, and long story short, I need a good, reliable tank humidifier and/or heater. Anyone know where I can find these things? my current fix won't last for ever. Help??

As far as heaters, the ones you get in a petstore really aren't effective. Most recommended is the Ultratherm from reptilebasics.com and beanfarm.com. They can also be insulated. Get a size that covers the back of the tank from the top of the substrate, which should be 6inches high, to the top of the tank. As for humidifiers I think most people don't use them. Make sure the substrate is moist enough to hold it's shape. Sandcastle consistancy. Have a damp moss pit. And bubblers in the pools really help. And of course make sure the lid is sealed.

What do you mean by grated? Lol. A wet towel just absorbs the humidity. And a light dries up the humidity. If you have a mesh lid you can get a sheet of plexiglass at the hobby store and cut it down to fit the entire lid, then tape it down. Or you can cover it with saran wrap and tape that down. No need to leave any spot open. They will get air when you feed them. If the tank doesnt stay humid enough, the substrate will dry out and they won't be able to molt.

What do you have for a thermometer and hygrometer? What are the current temp and humidity?

What do you mean by grated?

A screened lid. “Grate” and “screen” can mean the same thing. ;)

Are you sure that the screen can't be mesh-type?

A mesh lid won't hold in the humidity. What are the current heat and humidty?

It can but it has to be sealed. I have mesh lids and they are both sealed.
