Molting or not?

Post by Leslye123 » Tue Sep 17, 2019 10:27 pm

Recently I got a hermit crab from my niece who had won it at a fair. She obviously couldn’t take it care of it the right way so I took it in. When I put it in the tank it stayed in one corner the shell is slightly visible on the surface. He doesn’t smell but could he already be molting? It is the first day that I put him in the tank there are no other hermits in there with him. I don’t want to let him die if he’s not molting I just would like to know if there’s anything I could to?

Hard to say what is happening. Could be molting, or de-stressing, or just hanging out, LOL.

If you fill in the Emergency template, we can help make sure you have everything optimal to give him the best chance.

Agreed again. See if you are up to filling out the template. New crab may just be destressing. Hands off approach probably best for now.

My boardwalk crab had 3" of EE with another in a small " tank" and was digging for a few days. I added Instant Ocean as directed on day 5 and he soaked it up for an hour or so then dug to the bottom.

Upgraded, but left him buried. Over a month later (small crab) he surfaced out of the EE mixed with Aquafina looking great and is now in my real upgrade with the others doing well.
