Since you've come to the emergency forum, we know you want a fast answer to your question. In order for us to figure out the problem as quickly as possible, we ask that you answer the following questions as best you can. Some of them may seem odd, but they're all designed to give us the information we need to give you a good solution for your problem. The things in the [ brackets ] are there to make this post easier to read once submitted. Thanks!
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it?
Eco Earth with slight sand mixture, 6-8 inches.
2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature and humidity do they usually read?
Electric Guage, 99% Humditiy and 75f.
3. Is a heat source used in the tank? If so, what?
Heat Pads
4. What types of water are available (fresh or salt) and how is the water treated (what brands of dechlorinator or salt mix and what ratio is used to mix it)?
Both, [ Ocean Prime and Instant Ocean ]
5. What kinds of food do you feed and how often is it replaced?
Primarily dried and freeze-dried food, and with specific pellets without copper sulfate ( not given regularly ) and dusted with either calcium or vitamin powder. Changed roughly every 24-48 hours.
6. How long have you had the crab and what species is it, if known?
August 2018
7. Has your crab molted, and how long ago did it happen?
Tukiyo molted roughly back in october and was down for a month. I believe she had a molting issue where only one of her legs partially formed.
8. What type of housing are the crabs kept in, what size is it and what kind of lid is on the housing?
20 Gallon Aquarium, Plastic Lid.
9. How many crabs are in the tank and about how large are they?
2 PP's, one large, and tukiyo is the medium
10. How many extra shells are usually kept in the tank, if any?
2-3 For both of them, Odin tends to only swap with one other shell back and forth, but Tukiyo tends to stay down ALOT, so I really don't see her in action.
11. Have there been any fumes or chemicals near the crabitat recently?
None.
12. How often do you clean the tank and how?
Spot clean daily
13. Are sponges used in the water dish? If so, how are they cleaned?
Nope
14. Has anything new been added to your crabitat recently?
None
15. Is there any other information you would like to share that might be helpful (anything that is regularly part of your crab care, playtime, bathing, etc.)?
N/A
16. Please describe the emergency situation in detail.
I've noticed there's been a rise of a bacterial bloom and I have gotten a new massive bag of eco earth so I did a substrate change to help get rid of the nasty water, and so I was forced to take Tukiyo out of where she's been hidden at- I took her and Odin out and I did a full substrate change of the tank; when I placed the two back in Tukiyo didn't really move, but was poking out of her shell- her feelers was only slightly moving and I decided to check on her later, roughly and hour or so later I came back and noticed she still didn't move, and mostly kept an eye out to make her Odin wasn't trying to get all on top of her or anything like that and I was expecting her to hit up the food bowl and bury again, and I already felt pretty bad for doing that. I placed her gently into the food bowl, and while she was looking out of her shell her antenee was moving VERY slowly and hardly moving, sorta staying semi-tucked backed up in the shell.
Another hour or so passes this morning and she still hasn't done anything so I got a closer eye on her- She's still firmly within her shell, but I noticed one of her legs is sorta sagging and wagging back and forth. It's not solid; I've placed her in the hide and have it covered up as I'm not sure if I caught her when she was literally molting. Keep in mind she molted back in October, but I do understand hermit crabs can have extremely random molts close to eachother; I seriously feel bad and I don't want to stress her more then I've likely already did, and at such a sensitive time, while I'm trying not to panic, I'm EXTREMELY worried and I don't want to loose her.
Any advice?
