Hi all! A few weeks ago I posted on a local pet forum that I was looking for crabs to adopt. I just got a call from a girl who is having a crab emergency and needed help. She has 1 crab that is deshelled and lost most of its limbs and a second crab that is shelled but surface molting. I have never bad to handle any emergency situations before so I thought I'd post here for feedback. I'm not gonna bother with the emergency form, the conditions they were being kept in are not appropriate. The girl is bringing the crabs to my house later today.

I have a tote and an extra heater I am going to set up as a hospital tank. I will have to get a kritter keeper to keep inside so I can keep these 2 separated until they're ready to go into the main tank. My plan is to use paper towels as substrate to help keep the tat moist. Will keep posted!

That sounds good to me. Let us know how feeding goes too!

Surface molting should be okay, try to get him set up just once in a humid environment (moist substrate is honestly the easiest way, paper towels get funky and messy) and then pop a small dish or coconut over top and leave him be for a week or two before checking.

The other guy is going to be a longshot. Once the legs start coming off it's usually a sign it's too late. I'm glad you're trying! Just please don't be discouraged if something bad happens.
