Discovered fungus, crab went down

Hi guys, I posted in crabitat conditions the other night that I noticed a yellow fungus growing in the substrate at the bottom of the tank. I’ve gotten the supplies to change the substrate (eco earth, play sand) and I’ve begun the process of removing tank decor and crabs, only to discover that one of my crabs went below the surface today while I was at work.
With the fungus issue, what do I do? Do I leave the crab to attempt to molt with the fungus? Do I dig it up? Am I going to lose my crab no matter what choice I make? Please help! Attached is a photo of the fungus.

Before you ask, why didn’t I change the substrate as soon as I noticed? I had surgery and cannot carry the bags of play sand up to my apartment, so I had to ask a strong friend to come help me.

Crabitat conditions:
35 gal, 74 degrees F and 70% humidity. Substrate is 7+ inches deep.

Oh, it's along the side of the tank! I thought it was on the surface from the previous photo, sorry!
I don't think the fungus would be harmful to the crabs, I would personally just ignore it. Fungus is different than a bacterial bloom.
