Mites on dead crab

Post by MomToDixie » Sat Dec 16, 2006 10:18 am

I was rearranging the tat and found a dead crabbie right underneath the surface, upon closer inspection I could see a tiny (piece of sand size) bug in the shell. Do I deep clean, or did it just go after the dead crab?

I think you need some deep cleaning... I don't think mites go away... unless you have the good mites that eats the bad mites.

I'm in the middle of deep cleaning right now. I haven't found anymore and I'm hoping it was just on the dead crab (only saw one). I have my fingers crossed.

I just finished removing all of the old substrate (thank goodness for shop vacs :D ). I'm happy to report I haven't come accross any more mites. I'm starting to question if it really "was" a mite :? . I needed to deep clean anyway! I'll have pics up later!

yeah thinking it was something else........I will anxioulsy await the pics...keep fingers crossed. I swear I am thinking of buying the predatory mites every 6 mos and throwing them in there for good measure---gotta find a cheaper way of getting them though.

Usually, the "mites" that feed on dead matter are not the same kind that prey on live crabs. One or the other, I guess.
