Even E's tend to drop these... As they have not been in them long enough to modify them much.

I never looked at the guys in painted shells because i would never even want to bring them home and risk my crabs eating the chipped paint it's possible that the es are all painted shell guys as all the ones people said from petco seem to be in painted shells

Same here. It's possible that they have had E's before, because these guys are all in painted shells. Sometimes the pp's are in the painted shells too. It makes me sad to see them like that, especially after I saw a video on how they get that way.

Petco and pet smart has to be aware of the horrible practices of the pet trade.

I know the people inside my local petsmart feel horrible about it! The manager won't budge on anything I'm currently dealing with corporate! For E's its even more dangerous because they do modify!

I'm thinking the reason that the crabs tend to drop them, is because the fact that they're forced into them, so it doesn't always mean that they're comfortable in the shells.

That's so sad how they're treated. :( Hope you can be the one who saves them!

E's are super common in Petco's in Texas. Every time I look at a Petco tat; it contains at least 50-75% Ecuadorians. I really like their green and orange coloring but I don't have any. I don't buy from pet stores. If I did, I would march straight down to the store that sells exotics. They regularly have Straws and Blueberry's (although I suspect they are actually Viola's) for $15.00 each.

Reading all these new posts was very interesting. I did move to CO, and have been here a few days. I had not seen any E's in that store before, both of my hermits are PPs.

Do you live in Houston mool? I really like the coloring of the E's and their energy level. I think their eyes are super cute too. I didn't end up purchasing any because both of my hermits went down to molt and I was concerned about digging space.

I live in Austin. It's funny that only Petco and not PetSmart regularly carries the e's. Almost every pet shop in Austin has a tank of hermit crabs--in varying states of humane care.

I really, really want some of the strawberries and violas that I see at the shop that is about a mile from my house, but I'm a grown up and I can resist temptation!!
