I just spent 2ish hours cleaning the tank. You can't really tell, except for the smell, it smells 100% better! I used spray vinegar, water rinse, repeat, repeat, extra rinse, fresh cut lemon scrub, and rinse again.

I do have algae on (under?) the silicone. I don't want to scrub it off and risk loosing some silicone. Besides being unslightly, is there anything I should be concerned about?

Better yet, anyone have any tips for removing it without re-caulking the whole thing?

I doubt the algae is bad. I don't think it spreads either but ill let someone else clearify that. Other than that calcium build ups are nothing to fret about they are really hard to remove but pose no threat in my experience. I hope it turns out just the way you plan it. GL!!!

Algae just looks bad. It may green up and spread some with humidity and light, but it'll be harmless. It may not even be algae, it might be diatomes, those are always brown and are also harmless.

Bleaching the seals will remove it, if you wanted to do that. Do one side at a time and let it sit for 15 minutes. Just rinse really good after. Bleach can make just about any silicone look better, I've done a dozen tanks that way.

So, I just got my Cholla wood! It took awhile, but it's okay since I don't even have my crabbies yet. It's a little crusty. It's supposedly organic and free from pesticides. I was thinking of soaking it in some declorinated ocean water and then letting it sun dry to clean it up a bit. Thoughts?
