I had hermies back in 1989, they lived for about two years. Fast forward to Feb 2017. I wanted to have a small simple pet to keep in my office at work. Bought a 5 gallon tank and an Eccie who I named Bella (because I think she's beautiful).
Then I went online. WOW! There is so much more knowledge today then there was back in the 80s! Or maybe it's just easier to find these days, with the internet.
So... the next day, I went and bought a ten gallon tank and another Eccie (Blue) so that Bella wouldn't be lonely. Realized they would need better care and attention than I could give them by keeping them at work, so I did some major rearranging to fit them in my tiny studio apartment.
They are the sweetest little things! Both are medium size, a bit timid, but not aggressive (no pinches as of yet!). Very active both day and night- especially Blue; I'm convinced he NEVER sleeps. Their tank is right next to my bed, so it's easy to watch and enjoy their shenanigans. They both went down for a molt, Blue was under for a month and came back up, looking great. About this time, while at the pet store looking for a lounge net, I noticed a wee little Eccie in a tank full of PPs. Felt sorry for him and brought him home to join the family: hello, Teddy. A week later, Bella came up from her molt. And of course, three days after that, Teddy went under. Not sure if he's molting or simply de-stressing. Am currently waiting for 20H gallon tank to arrive (the biggest I'm going to be able to fit in my space). I'll move Bella & Blue, and keep the 10 gallon up and running until Teddy comes back up and can join them.
It's been four months now, and I don't think it possible for me to be more devoted to them. Based on the posts I've read, many here feel the same about their crab babies. Thank you for having such a great space/resources for people like me to have to hang out at.
