How long can you keep the eggshells? Can they be from raw eggs? So if im cooking chicken and i season the top of it, I can pull some off the bottom and give that to them? Just as long as there is no salt on that area? Or do I need to boil the egg then use the shell? My humidity and temperature are perfect, that I have had no problem with.Maddamay32 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 8:28 pmIf you're struggling to find a calcium source for them eggshells are pretty easy. I keep a mason jar in my fridge where I put all my eggshells on mornings when I eat breakfast. They get smelly quick but the crabs don't mind![]()
Protein is another food item that needs to be readily available. Pet stores have many dried bugs/shrimp available for cheap. I don't know off the top of my head any meat that's unsafe for crabs (maybe ham?) As long as it's not salted or seasoned. It's easy to pull off small pieces of meat when you're cooking and throw them in the food bowl.
Besides the tips mentioned above I would add having a thermometer and hygrometer is very important. The minimum readings of 75/75 is what's recommended to ensure your crabs are not suffering.

You can give them raw meat? I have been so worried about feeding them meat after i cooked it.Maddamay32 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 8:47 pmYeah any area that's not seasoned is safe, cooked or raw. And yes raw eggshell is safe as well, I think the crabs even like it more because it has raw egg on it too lol
You can keep the shells for as long as you want. Crabs are scavengers so rotten food items won't hurt them.....just stink up your house

Yupp I think they like it more raw anyway. That's how they would naturally find it in the wild ya know? Sometimes I'll throw in some raw chicken fat and they go straight for that when the lights go off!kellylaree82 wrote: You can give them raw meat?
