Returning Crab Owner...

Post by Mama_mia » Sun Jan 31, 2021 11:43 am

Hello all!

I’m returning to the crab owner status after several years..and adulthood. My kiddos grandma bought her a “complete” starter kit and a couple of crabs a few weeks before Christmas. Of course, now, the kiddo wants nothing to do with them.

So, I have decided to do some research and move the crabbies into my home office! After spending a small fortune to get the right supplies (thanks grandma!), and a husband that’s quite possibly ready to murder me, I think I have a suitable setup (in theory, haven’t started putting it all together yet).

One of the crabs is molting, and he’s quite large. Before he went down he was needing a new shell, so I’m sure, now with the molt in progress he will most definitely need a new shell. Where do you all recommend for good shells? I live in Houston and was ready to drive to Galveston to go take a gander at some of the shops down there. I measured his opening at around 1.5.

Please and thank you!

A lot of people here like Naples. There’s also Richards. I’ve ordered from both and also purchased variety packs from Amazon. I look for Turbos...since I have Purple Pinchers.

Have fun with it all!

Hi!

I've also ordered from Naples a few times and have been happy with their shells. I found larger shells for my bigger guy on Etsy: Crabby Kate's Crab Shack:

I always make sure I have shells a little smaller, the same size, and a little bigger than what my crabs measure. That way they have a variety to pick from. Image

This is fantastic! I need to try to remeasure him when he comes up. Just to make sure I remember correctly! Lol. Thank you!!!
