Buried Crab

Post by Santoyofamily » Mon Aug 23, 2021 7:26 pm

We just got our 2 crabs less than a week ago. After doing some extensive research we learned that we needed to move them out of the small carrying case that we got with them so while searching for a 10 gallon tank we moved them to a large shallow bucket. We were still able to add about 6 inches of substrate. We found a 10 gallon tank today but one of our crabs has buried itself. Hoping it’s nothing serious just de-stressing and what not but my question is should I go ahead and set up the new tank and move the other crab while waiting on the buried crab to resurface?

Yes I would for sure recommend that. At least have the tank up and running so you can have the right humidity for them. :) I
is there a lid on the bucket? :)

Okay, so I would for sure get the tank set up and get the crabby moved into that. Maybe you can try and coax the other one out somehow so you won’t have to dig it up. But I’m partly wanting to recommend you lightly dig him up to make sure he’s not molting and get him moved. I’d wait for someone more experienced to confirm though. Moving them or digging them up is so dangerous but with a better environment ready that’s he needs.. I’m not sure.

I agree, you'll want to move the crab that's up to the new tank whenever you get it set up. Do you know what the humidity in the bucket is? If the humidity is 70% or higher, I would just let the crab that's under be until he comes up.
