Me crab friend and new tank

Post by River » Thu Sep 23, 2021 1:11 pm

Today I just bought a new crabby friend. I was very distraught at Petsmarts treatment of their crabs. The poor little crab I bought today has a broken shell. But is very active. They ran around there new big tank, climbing on everything! Then retired to his little hide for a nap! I do need to buy more sand for the new tank I just bought. I got $50 worth of sand and it barely fills the tank. So I will be getting more in time. Image
I have 3 water dishes at the moment. 2 salt water and a freshwater.
I now have 2 crabs! Hank and is new friend (open to name suggestions)
Any suggestions for different climbing toys or anything to add to the tank other than more sand

The only name I can think of is the one I’m reserving for Eugene’s eventual friend

Very nice setup! What sand are you using that it cost $50? The sakrete brand play sand I used is $5-7 for a 50lb bag.
Two 29gals. 3 PPs in each.
~200gal of fish tanks. Mostly planted community tanks.
Multiple kiddos, doggies and kitties.

I also get my play sand cheap. I can usually find a 50lb bag at Lowe's or Home Depot for under $5.

Grab a hamster wheel! The crabs in my big tank love walking on theirs.

No I bought like 3 bags of coconut fiber sand mix and all together I cost $50

Was that the 'Hermit Crab Beach' sand? It's great sand, one of the few products marketed for crabs that is actually safe. But the downside is the cost. You can just get a bag of play sand and add it to what you have, no problem!

Oh I gotcha. Yeah, the larger bags of 'pre-fluffed' eco earth are around $10/bag unless you're lucky enough to find it on sale, so that's like $30 itself.
