Hello! I'm Motley. I used to own hermit crabs (I had a tank of ecuadorians and a tank of caribbeans), back when I was in high school. However, I had a lot going on senior year of high school and ended up rehoming the crabs since I was no longer able to take care of them. That being said, I always loved keeping hermit crabs, and after doing some more recent research, I found out that the hobby has, in fact, cracked captive breeding. My goal is to either get a few captive bred hermit crabs, or adopt from other hermit crab keepers. I'd like to avoid taking any from the wild this time around, if possible (no shame on anyone who has wild caught hermit crabs though).
Anyway, I used to be an active member of several hermit crab forums and I'm pretty sure this was one of them. Forums, in my experience, are the best place to find experienced hobbyists and good, comprehensive advice, as well as a place to share my interest and my own tank. So I'm back! I'm especially excited to teach my friend and roommate, Nakama, all I know about hermit crab care, introduce them to the wonderful world of hermit crab keeping, and keep a colony of crabs with them in our home. I love hermit crabs, so I'm extremely excited to share that love and knowledge with Nakama.
Some things to know about me: I'm 24 year old guy, I have an adorable longhair tabby named Grant, I'm a cancer (not really into astrology much but I thought it was fitting, given the subject matter), and I'm a HUGE nerd. I WILL flood you with science facts absolutely every chance I get.
thanks for reading

Welcome back!
Be sure to check out the 'adoption' forums for people looking to re-home their crabs, and to post that you are looking.

Re: Returning to the Hobby
Welcome back. Depending on how long you've been "out", you'll find some practices regarding care has changed significantly, but a lot of their care is likely to be the same!
Honestly, the best thing of getting crabs is the absolute bragging rights and talking opportunities! Hopefully you're room-mate likes them, I know they aren't for everyone!
