New here from Maryland

Post by thorolfzbt » Tue Sep 06, 2022 5:07 pm

First off thanks to the people here with experience. My names zach, im 32 from Maryland. I had crabs growing up most died quick because I was a kid and adults didn't bother researching pets in those days. I had one large that lasted 3 years as a teen. Recently got some crabs and this time as an adult wanted to figure out why they die so quick before i got some, only to find out from HCA it's because the conditions theyre kept in. Got a 55g tank with proper humidity and temp, water, etc. Got 12 crabs and unfortunately have lost 3 to pps :( trying my best to keep them all happy but, seems from researching, PPS is something that happens and all we can do is try our best. Still stressful and makes me sick losing any. Majority are dug in now after some heavy eating and shell switching, so hopefully they felt safe enough to molt and come up a little happier.

Welcome back to crabbing and to the site!
While there are lots of 'younger' people on here, there are also lots of old geezers like me! LOL! I had never even heard of hermit crabs until I was almost 40, and as soon as I knew such things existed I started thinking about getting some. Not even a month later, someone was advertising a couple of them on a local buy and sell because their kid 'lost interest'. $20 for the crabs and the ten gallon tank, which had nothing in it except a bowl of tap water, some potato chips, and a peach pit for them to eat. I found the HCA right away when looking up crab care, and here we are 12 years later! LOL!
