My MIL recently surprised our 3 and 5 year old daughters with two PP crabs. They were in a small plastic container with gravel; luckily we have several planted tank aquariums so had some supplies on hand. I moved them into a 20g terrarium with some pool filter sand and a small dechlorinated water bowl thinking that would make an okay long term home.
After doing some research I discovered that proper care was more in depth than I thought; especially substrate depth, humidity, and need for fresh and salt water. So we got to work setting up a proper home for them in a 29 gallon tank with glass lid. I really enjoy setting up tanks so it's been a fun project over the last week; we got everything to a comfortable spot and moved our crabs in yesterday afternoon. They're still de-stressing so haven't been super active yet but we look forward to watching them in their new home.
