New Crab Family

Post by Virtus » Mon Aug 14, 2023 8:49 am

Hi all, new guy here checking in.

My MIL recently surprised our 3 and 5 year old daughters with two PP crabs. They were in a small plastic container with gravel; luckily we have several planted tank aquariums so had some supplies on hand. I moved them into a 20g terrarium with some pool filter sand and a small dechlorinated water bowl thinking that would make an okay long term home.

After doing some research I discovered that proper care was more in depth than I thought; especially substrate depth, humidity, and need for fresh and salt water. So we got to work setting up a proper home for them in a 29 gallon tank with glass lid. I really enjoy setting up tanks so it's been a fun project over the last week; we got everything to a comfortable spot and moved our crabs in yesterday afternoon. They're still de-stressing so haven't been super active yet but we look forward to watching them in their new home.

The new set-up looks amazing, honestly looks like an amazing tank for them to get settled in and destress!

Hopefully in the coming weeks the crabs take full advantage of the space!!

Thank you both! Both of the crabs were much more active and exploring late evening last night; finally saw one eat for the first time, was really chowing down on some mango ha.

Omg aww, I think crabs look so cute when they eat! Some of my crabs LOVE food, others I never see eat!
My babies (they are not actually babies, some of them act more like teenagers sometimes tbh ) have yet to try mango, I will have to pick some up for them soon!
