We've got our crabbies

Post by casssch » Thu Mar 05, 2015 5:28 pm

We finally got our crabbies - 4 little guys. Based on our short look over in the pet store I think one of them is too little for his (not gendered) shell. He was completely in his shell, hidden. I almost couldn't tell there was a crab in it! I'll try to get some good pictures after we get them home (2.5 hours). They're in a kk with moss for the trip home. Is there anything I should do before putting them in the tank at home? The pet store had them in a mix of soil and mostly blue sand.

Give them a decent dunk in the fresh water and then let them go! :)

Since they're all new and had been together you really don't need to do anything, but because of the blue sand I'd recommend a dunk as well, to rinse out any of that cacli-sand that made it inside their shells. They usually get pretty caked with it, and it's a good idea to start them off clean in your tank.

They've had their bath, and are in their tanks! One of them, Teeny, has not come out of his shell at all. I think it's too big for him.

Jasmine and Belle are in the top left corner, Sebastian is the middle-ish one, and Teeny is on the right.

Teeny is so cute!! The shell is big but shouldn't slow him down much. I have a micro in a shell so big you can't see him in it unless you tilt it just right, and he scuttles around like it's nothing.

Congrats on the new crabbies..more pics are required after they settle in! ;)

More pics for sure! I just figured, much to my daughter's dismay, I should get them settled in asap. Belle is the only one exploring so far, and she seems to enjoy climbing over everything and everyone. I think she and Jasmine are probably considered to be "small", although I haven't measured them yet. Not that I think Belle would even stay still lol. Those two just seem huge compared to the other two.
