4 new teeny crabby babies
I just rescued 4 new teeny crabs. They are very small and have yet to be named. It occurred on a whim and so unfortunately my old 20gallon breeder wasn't set up (which is what I wish I had had set up to put them in). So I put them in the 40gallon with my 6 original that I've had since June. Before I moved the 6 to there new cage they all had noted except one, my biggest. I was moving next door and since they all had just recently molted I put only about 4 inches of substrate in their new tat. Well I ended up putting my 4 new teenies in the 40 gallon last night because I didn't want to keep them in a small container until I could set up the 20 g again basically to warm it up. Now I could just hit myself I have always quarantined a new purchased crab in the past for at least 3weeks to a month. If I would of put the 4 new ones in the 20 gallon they would have time to destress( which I think some already are trying to due to the evidence of small tunnels),and/or time to molt before being introduced to the already established colony. Not to mention theres not enough substrate for the new crabbies to molt safely, and I can't really pour any new stuff in the ones in tunnels. And what if they have mitrs or something that makes my6 healthy ones sick? Please help me what would you do? Fix up the 20gallon and put the new four in or would that do more harm then good and after they have completed there first molt and r out of danger from pps return them to the 40 gallon? They really are small so I'm not too worried about overcrowding yet. I am also concerned about the new ones bringing something contagious home. I have one now who's went down for another molt currently as well so I have another problem to address I can't very well move the aquarium with a molting crab ,what if something happens to her cave. Oh I just wish I had put them in the 20gallon by themselves, I just put them in there 12 hours ago please any suggestions or advice?

Where did you get the four new crabs from? If they were rescued from an established home, I'm guessing you don't have to worry about any diseases or mites.

Re: 4 new teeny crabby babies
We've never, in almost 50 crabs worth of adoptions, isolated a new crab. They've all gotten a mite check and quick dip in freshwater and off they went.
You can add substrate gently every day until you reach the level you need. A cup or so should be fine till it's deep enough.
There aren't really any known diseases that affect hermit crabs other than shell rot but Wodesorel can correct or confirm that if I am mistaken.

From a pet store that didn't even have a lid on the cage ,anyone could of went in there and messed with them it was a little overcrowded, very clean, but not much substrate and clearly no way to keep humidity in. I just like to keep a good eye on my crabs so I can see if any problems may or could arise. Now with the extras I feel a little overwhelmed! They are very small and the new ones now are sticking together and it appears to me that my original 6 ( except for two, cause my smallest of my original six went down for another molt)are not being friendly not so much friendly but just ignoring the newbies. I also am a little concerned because the one new little one has been in the same spot for over a day now half buried, the other little ones came to cuddle with him. I mean I can't be sure positively that he/she hasn't moved, but it clearly appears that way. Could he be destressing or on his way to herm heaven? What should I do besides not touch him? Maybe isolate with the 2 liter trick, so the others wont bother him? That might make it worse?
Re: 4 new teeny crabby babies
Everything is fine except for the amount of substrate II have no idea how to pull off carrying a 50 gallon tank, just across the street to my new apartment in the weather we are having here in western Pennsylvania, it's currently now 8degrees Fahrenheit. I'm not sure where I should of posted this or what to do? I am going to try to get any crabs that are up at removed into my 20 gallon, or just leave them all in there and wrap it in blankets and mie it as safely as possible but fast enough so they don't get shocked from the cold. I am literally moving like 150 feet away. I have only 3 to 4 inches of substrate in their tat, and that's not nearly enough. I didn't think it was going to take this long to move or I would of had 8 inches a long time ago. Then that would of started a hole new set of problems. Basically what advice can anyone give me on what they have had to do to move their crabitat, because they really are in need of more substrate a.s.a.p. Thanks

150 ft...I would put a few hand warmers inside, wrap it and move it immediately. Then take the warmers out as soon as it is in place so they don't get to them. They will still help keep it warmer in there when you have to go outdide. Less of a shock.
